Ok, maybe I over exceeded my character limit, I don't know, but where my screen name should be, it says 0, so hope this one goes through right.
When I try to highlight text in either wordpad, notepad, or hj pad, it won't highlight all the text. when I do control a to highlight all, it doesn't start at the beginning of the text, notepad just dings at me when I try to highlight all. Nothing seems to make text highlight better. I don't see the point of a fancy word processor, since I'm not a professional writer, and I don't use a word processor for a job. I just want to be able to copy and paste long text from my files in windows explorer to anywhere I want to, darn it. Can anyone tell me what to do to make word pad highlight as much text as I want?

Hi Wonderwoman, I'm not sure if this will work, but try pressing shift with down arrow to select line by line, it's time-consuming, but maybe it will work? I don't understand why it won't select all. Try going to file, edit and doing it that way instead of control A. Like I said, I doubt these two things will work, but it's worth a try. Caitlin
You can try ctrl-shift-end instead of ctrl-a .. that works if you want to select the entiree text in any word processor. Some verisns of word pad actually do not support the ctrl-a feature. This still sound totally werid though, what operating system are you runnin, 98, 2000 or xp ?
cheers

well, wonderwoman, jaws may not say from the begining, but it really does select the whole text if you hit control A...but notepad...I dunno. I don't like it very much...
Thanks Caitlin, I've tried selecting line by line, it still either won't select from beginning to end, but thanks anyway. Wild brew, I have windows 98 second edition. I still have the same version of wordpad I had when my mom bought the computer. it just came with it on there, I don't know what version it is. Alison, notepad is so so for really short text, but it can't handle anything over 64 k.

ok this is part of the poem that jaws read when I did control a, I tried control shift end, and it still didn't do it. Well I'm going to paste this in here, then if jaws doesn't read it all, but only that part it read when i highlighted it, you'll see what I mean, if it reads just that bit, well we'll knoww it didn't work.
This a poem, about the way I think computers would talk to us, if they could communicate with us like people.
My computers' point of view
This is something brand new,
Here is a computers' point of view,
Listen well, and hear what I say,
I don't like being left on 15 hours a day,
My dear user, why not just give up,
the person you're waiting for will never show up.
Listen now to my admission,
I refuse to be beaten in to submission.
so long as you the user stays in line,
We'll get along just fine.
whether your your knowledge is small or large,
remember who is the 1 really in charge.
Can computers go around the bend?
I feel this game of waiting will never end.
All because someone said he would show,
You left me sitting here 4 hours in a row.
Unless you want me to start a row,
I want to be shut down right now.
To you, a lesson I will teach,
do as I want, or I'll crash your screen readers' speech.
On 1 thing I can bet,
that will make you upset.
I don't care how much you whimper,
a computer has ways of losing its temper.
So if you do anything hasty and rash,
You'll find out how quickly I can crash.
So give me the respect you know I am due,
There you have it, a computers' point of view.
wow! I can't believe it, it posted the whole thing. Thanks Alison, you're going to be a computer genius. wow!
wonderwoman

Congrats Alison! Lol ... I always knew ... you've helped me out of a bunch of tight spots myself. You should go on Tech Support and teach them a thing or two lol jkjk. Anyway glady our problem is solved Wonderwoman, heehee.
Cheers!
Caitlin
Yeah Caitlin, now see why I didn't want to hang out with the geeks in the geeks are us forum? They'd've just not really being paying attention to my post, and they would've just given me some hurried instructions on copying and pasting, like I'm a computer newbie who doesn't know how to copy and paste. That was almost one of the first things I learned from the training tapes, when I started off with jaws 3.0. It was one of the most tedious and boring things I had to learn, but it's one of those boring things that turned out to be useful.
